The C+D Awards 2025 return for the 18th anniversary!

It’s been another blistering year, and the C+D team is delighted to announce that the foremost professionals in community pharmacy will once again have the opportunity to gather together to celebrate excellence in the sector.

Much-loved categories like Community Pharmacist of the Year and Independent Pharmacy of the Year will return, alongside recent additions like Trainee Pharmacist of the Year, which returns to acknowledge an outstanding individual just starting out in their career.

THE C+D AWARDS 2025 CATEGORIES

C+D wants to hear from you about the unsung heroes in your profession.

This is a wonderful opportunity to recognise and celebrate a pharmacist or pharmacy staff member who has gone the extra mile for their patients and the sector as a whole.

Share with us a time when you or your team exceeded expectations to assist patients, perhaps through life-saving interventions, charitable endeavours, or other remarkable efforts. The stories in each category will be subject to voting by C+D readers.

Unlike other C+D Awards, this is not an evaluation of an individual's entire career or a comprehensive project. Instead, it focuses on a specific event that allowed you or a colleague to stand out. The awards welcome submissions from any team, pharmacist, or pharmacy staff member with a noteworthy story from 2024. Although this category revolves around a singular experience, feel free to provide some background context and explain the repercussions of your story.

For instance, if your entry involves a patient intervention that went beyond standard of care, you may want to offer background information about your relationship with the patient and provide an update on their current well-being. However, if your narrative tends to focus more broadly on your or your pharmacy's achievements, it's advised to consider entering one of the other 13 C+D Awards categories. If the story you wish to submit involves a colleague rather than yourself, you are permitted to enter on their behalf. Ensure you have verified all the details with them and be aware that they will receive a complimentary ticket to the awards ceremony if they make the shortlist.

Jay joined the Pharmacists’ Defence Association as Director of Pharmacy in May 2024. The PDA is the largest pharmacy membership organisation bringing together over 38,000 members from across all areas of practice. It is a not-for-profit defence association that aims to act upon and support the needs of individual pharmacists and, when necessary, defend their reputation. As a pharmacist and industry leader Jay forms part of the senior leadership team at the PDA and lead the organisation to look after the individual and collective interests of employed and self-employed pharmacists. Previously Jay held senior executive and company director roles within multiple and independent pharmacy groups. He won the C&D Community Pharmacist of the Year award in 2015 and numerous other sector-based awards during his time with Whitworth Chemists. He served on the Board of Management of the National Pharmacy Association as Vice Chair and was a Board Member for six years. He was also the Chair for Community Pharmacy Tees Valley for three terms and is a Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society. Jay has a keen interest in social justice and international humanitarian law and was awarded his LL.M. with Distinction by studying this field whilst completing his master’s degree in law.
Stephanie Bancroft

Stephanie is a community pharmacist and lead for the Royal Pharmaceutical Society in North-West London. She organises regular educational events that support pharmacists’ CPD for revalidation and has led several award-winning projects for community pharmacists, with the aim of improving patient outcomes. Stephanie is deputy chair of the Parkinson’s Disease Specialist Pharmacy Network and a member of Brent and Harrow Local Pharmaceutical Committee.
Chris Bonsell
Senior Clinical Pharmacist in General Practice and Pharmacy Tutor
 
Chris has experience of working across many sectors of pharmacy including academia, community, hospital and prison pharmacy. He now mainly works in primary care as a pharmacist independent prescriber and as a Senior pharmacist supporting the training and development of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. He sits on the executive board of the Leeds Palliative Care Network as lead for medicines management and has extensive leadership & EDI experience. He is a member of the PCPA Leadership forum and sits on the UKCPA community pharmacy and Education & Development panels.

Liz joined NHS England in March 2022, having previously held the post of Chief Executive Officer and President of the Association of Pharmacy Technicians UK from 2019-2022. She has held regional posts as Associate Dean for Quality, Interim Pharmacy Dean and Associate Head of Pharmacy in Health Education England. Liz has also worked with the General Pharmaceutical Council as an Education Associate and has held operational leadership posts across many sectors of pharmacy. Liz is an Advisor to the UK Pharmacy Professional Leadership Advisory Board and Independent Advisor to the Department of Health Northern Ireland Pharmacy Technician Regulation and Development Oversight Group.
Yasmin Haq
Community and Practice Pharmacist
 
Yasmine is a Clinical PCN Pharmacist working across the North East of England. She splits her time over her practices, working in community and training the new generation of pharmacists through the PCPA. She graduated in 2019 at the University of Sunderland receiving the Jemma O'Sullivan award for her determination, care and compassion shown throughout her degree. Within her time as a Pre-Registration and Provisional Pharmacist she won Pre-Reg of the year for both C+D Awards 2020 and The Pharmacy Business Awards 2020. Her scope of experience started 11 years ago starting as a pharmacy assistant and since then has developed countless qualities to encourage and support many around her. She has since been one of our Women in Pharmacy Advisors, featuring on the podcast series 'a coffee with' and shared her story at The Pharmacy Show 2021 live.

Nick, is a third generation community pharmacist, he graduated from Bradford University in 1998, and trained as a pre-registration student in a family run community pharmacy and at St. James University Hospital Leeds. Since qualifying, he has worked for an independent pharmacy, as a locum and prescribing advisory for the Newquay doctors group. Nick was the Superintendent Pharmacist of Nick Kaye's Pharmacy in Newquay in Cornwall a role he took on in 2011 and finished in 2017. Whilst in that role the pharmacy won several awards including, C+D finalist 2013, Pharmacy Business award winner Entrepreneur 2012 and Alphega pharmacy of the year 2013. Nick is an ex-Partner of Veor Group of general practices and was also involved in the Key Note Speaker's Panel at the Pharmacy Show 2013.

Mixing it up like an old-fashioned chemist, Michael has enjoyed a career spanning many areas of pharmacy and pharmaceuticals. Currently a Fellow of the RPS he also works as a locum. Previously he was chief executive of two LPCs, was a professional liaison for Pfizer, ran operations at the CCA and was superintendent pharmacist at Superdrug. His wide ranging experience and subsequent insight make him a perfect judge for the C+D Awards.
Prof Mahendra G Patel

Professor Mahendra G Patel OBE is an eminent pharmacist and academic of national and international profile honouring professorial roles in the UK, Malaysia and USA. He has served as national board member and as Treasurer for the Royal Pharmaceutical Society for many years. He is also member of the Teaching Faculty for Bioethics at UNESCO. Mahendra has several national and international awards to his credit, notably around supporting evidence-based practice, health promotion and health education, and improving health and health inequalities within ethnic minority and underserved communities. He became one of the first to be awarded a Fellowship from NICE, and through pharmacy he received the prestigious Royal Pharmaceutical Society President’s Charter Award, and also became the first to be appointed International Fellow of the Indian Pharmaceutical Society. Mahendra is one of the UK trial leads at the University of Oxford in the world’s largest and fastest recruiting clinical trials in primary care, with the PRINCIPLE and PANORAMIC trials. In the Queen's New Year's Honours 2022, Mahendra was recognised for his outstanding contribution and work in pharmacy and was awarded an OBE.

Aled is a Community Pharmacist Independent Prescriber, who graduated from Cardiff in 2008, and completed his Independent Prescribing qualification in 2021. Aled fits patient facing work – including delivery of the Wales Community Pharmacy Independent Prescribing Service - around his main role as Associate Director of Contractor Engagement at Community Pharmacy Wales. In this role he provides support for the Welsh community pharmacy network in delivering all elements of the CPCF, as well as leading national work for CPW on Collaborative working, the Choose Pharmacy digital clinical platform and Electronic Prescribing.

Sukhy has been a pharmacist for over 25 years, she has a vast amount of experience in senior leadership and management roles. These include: District Manager, Area Manager and Professional Services Development Manager. She has previously been a care homes trainer and consultant, as well as the Managing Director of two pharmacies in the Black Country. She has won three consecutive C&D awards, including Manager of the Year 2020, Team of the Year 2021 and Independent Pharmacy of the Year 2022. She has a wealth of experience in delivering training, project management and quality improvement. Her current role in the Black Country brings all her knowledge and skills together in the delivery of successful integration and collaboration across the Black Country Integrated Care System.

Mital is an experienced leader in the community pharmacy sector. He is passionate about innovation and improving patient experience and is an advocate for community pharmacy. Having been a judge for the past four years he is inspired by the fantastic stories and innovations that occur across the Pharmacy landscape and is delighted to see the profession progressing forward. Mital has been previously nominated as the Community Pharmacist of the Year at the C&D Awards 2018 and was part of the winning Team of the Year award in the 2020 C&D Awards ceremony.

Nicola Stockmann

Nicola Stockmann is the President of the Association of Pharmacy Technicians UK (APTUK).

She has previously held roles as APTUK Vice-President (2022 – 2024) and the APTUK Hampshire branch chairperson (2020-2022). Nicola has represented APTUK and the Pharmacy Technician profession internationally and to give evidence at the Health and Social Care committee Pharmacy Inquiry 2024. Board member positions include the Inclusive Pharmacy Practice Board and holds an Ex Officio place on the UK Pharmacy Professional Leadership Advisory Board (UKPPLAB). She is also currently a council partner for the Department of Health & Social Care ‘10 year health plan’ on behalf of APTUK.

In addition to her voluntary role as APTUK President, Nicola is also the Pharmacy Operations Manager at Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust. She has been a qualified Pharmacy Technician since 2012 and has previously worked in community pharmacy, clinical trials, medicines optimisation and as a Medicines Safety Officer.

Ian Strachan

Ian Strachan has enjoyed a varied contrasting career. A home office forensic scientist , pilot, a school teacher and author of several successful publications including the first accredited care home training in England. Ian has been a pharmacist since 1986 and has been an advocate of the community pharmacy network, serving the sector with integrity and purpose. He works towards the prosperity and interests of community pharmacy teams everywhere.

Ian is passionate about pharmacy and was the longest elected chairman in the history of NPA. During his leadership the sector was united behind him in what became a halcyon period for the sector.

Ian stepped down from the NPA in 2022 to join the Board of the Independent pharmacies Association (IPA) and is an elected member of the community pharmacy England (CPE) Committee.

Elen Jones

Elen was promoted to the Director for Wales role in 2019, after joining the Royal Pharmaceutical Society in 2014.

Prior to this, she was the RPS Policy and Practice Lead in Wales for five years, leading on various Great Britain and Wales-specific policies, including pharmacy’s role in supporting care home resident and palliative care residents.

In 2019 she was the project manager and lead author of the ten-year plan for pharmacy in Wales, Pharmacy: Delivering a Healthier Wales.

Elen has worked at Well Pharmacy as a pharmacy branch manager, teacher practitioner and in a UK clinical governance role. She has also lectured at Cardiff University on a part-time basis since 2010, where she attained a fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.

She led the development of Welsh language opportunities for Welsh-speaking pharmacy students at the university, to ensure they are confident and competent to consult with patients bi-lingually.

Gordon practised as a community pharmacist before working for the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain in various roles, including secretary to the statutory (disciplinary) committee. He is qualified as a barrister and for almost 17 years he worked for the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, first as Assistant Registrar, in charge of standards and fitness to practise procedures for veterinary surgeons and nurses; and later as Registrar of the College.
